Fire razes building, 3 houses in Bacolod

A TWO-STOREY building and three other houses were razed in separate fire incidents in Bacolod City over the weekend.

Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Fire Marshal Chief Inspector Publio Plotena said on All Souls’ Day, the fire razed the two-storey building at Hilado Extension in Barangay 17.

The fire broke out from the ceiling of the building, owned by Rogelio Fernandez, at about 12:50 p.m. It was put out at about 1:30 p.m.

No casualties were reported.

Plotena said the fire started from the room of Emily, the helper of Fernandez, who was not around during the incident.

He said the initial cause of fire was the defective electrical wiring from the ceiling of the building which caused an estimated damage of P200,000.

At about 3 a.m yesterday, the fire razed three houses in CL Montelibano Avenue, Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City.

Plotena said the fire started from the house of Edgardo Rubi and it immediately spread to two other houses.

He said the initial cause of fire was an unattended lighted candle in the house of Rubi. No injuries were reported.

The fire destroyed P100,000 worth of properties. It was put out at about 3:31 a.m.

Plotena reminded the public not to leave any lighted candle or lamp unattended, and to always check the electrical connection before leaving the house, and if an appliance smokes or has an unusual smell, unplug it immediately and have it repaired.

Plotena also encouraged the public to replace any electrical wires which are cracked or frayed. Don’t overload extension wires or run them under rugs.
