Cebu City to help tremor-hit Mindanao

THE Cebu City Government has launched its campaign to help the local government units (LGUs) in Mindanao affected by a series of earthquakes in the past two weeks.

Mayor Edgardo Labella called for a meeting with the City’s department heads, who were led by City Administrator Floro Casas Jr., on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019 to lay out their plans.

In an interview, Labella said the personnel of the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS) will start accepting donations on Monday, Nov. 4. They are in a tent near the old police station, just across the Fuente Osmeña Circle.

The DSWS personnel also have a tent in front of the Legislative Building in Plaza Sugbo.

Labella said the City is willing to fetch donations. Those who want to donate, he said, can contact the City’s landline number: (032) 262-1424.

Also on Monday, the group led by City Councilor Dave Tumulak will go to Mindanao to check the damage in Cotabato City and other LGUs.

By Wednesday, Nov. 6, the group is expected to submit its recommendations to Labella.

The delegation also includes disaster office chief Harold Alcontin, engineer Ricky Enolpe of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office and Sheila Daluz, chief of Deparment of Manpower Development and Placement. They will serve as guides as they are from Mindanao.

Labella said Tumulak’s group will check the primary needs of the LGUs.

Labella, who chairs the League of Cities of the Philippines, said affected residents in Mindanao LGUs need bottled water. (FROM PAC OF SUPERBALITA CEBU / KAL)
