PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge Lieutenant General Archie Gamboa on Monday, November 4, urged all police personnel, especially the ranking officials, to donate to their fellow policemen who were affected by the series of earthquakes in Mindanao.

He said over 70 PNP personnel in Northern Mindanao, Davao and Soccsksargen regions were affected.

“Sabi ko nga bigyan din namin ng priority ‘yung aming mga pulis kasi marami rin kaming pulis na biktima but the NHQ (national headquarters) will address that,” Gamboa said in a press conference.

“’Yung in-announce ko kanina ‘yung voluntary donation from all the PNP members starting at P10 but I am encouraging everyone to donate some more to the victims doon sa earthquake natin sa Mindanao particularly in regions 10, 11 and 12. I would like to encourage everybody that we start off with our voluntary contribution at P10 but of course it will not be limited to that lalo na iyung mga heneral na malalaki ang suweldo. Sana lakihan nyo iyung contribution nyo,” he added.

Gamboa also asked financial institutions to offer zero interest loans for the repair of the damaged houses of affected PNP personnel.

He said that the PNP is also checking police structures that were damaged due to the tremors.

Meanwhile, Gamboa said public safety, rescue and relief operations have been continuous particularly in the three affected regions.

“CIDG field units and local PNP units in these regions are supporting DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) and LGU operations to strictly enforce a price freeze on basic commodities and essential goods in areas declared under state of calamity pursuant to Republic Act 7581 or the Price Act,” he said.

Three earthquakes struck a large part of Mindanao in October.

On October 16, 2019, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck southeast of Tulunan, North Cotabato around 7:37 p.m. at a depth of eight kilometers.

On October 29, 2019, a magnitude 6.6 hit again southeast of Tulunan, North Cotabato around 9:04 a.m.

On October 31, 2019, a magnitude 6.5 earthquake was recorded with epicenter located northeast of Tulunan with a depth of eight kilometers.

All quakes were tectonic and inland. (SunStar Philippines)
