Two more Pinoys lose in fights abroad

IT REALLY has been a bad weekend for Pinoy boxers fighting overseas after two more losses on Sunday night, Nov. 3, 2019.

Omega Boxing Gym’s Tomjune Mangubat and Ponciano Remandiman suffered losses at the District 7 Arena in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

The only bright spot for the weekend was ALA Boy Esneth Domingo, who got the lone victory for the Filipinos.

The 22-year-old Mangubat fought hard but came up short with a split decision defeat to South Korean Jong Seon Kang in their 10-round bout for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental Youth featherweight strap.

Two judges had Kang up ahead with identical 96-93 scorecards, while one judge saw it 95-94 for Mangubat.

Remandiman (10-5-1, 5 KOs) was outclassed by unbeaten Vietnamese hard-hitter Van Thao Tran (11-0, 8 KOs).

Domingo (13-1, 7 KOs), on the other hand, beat Vietnamese Minh Phat Sam (3-3, 2 KOs) by majority decision.

Two judges had identical scores of 58-56, while the other judge saw it as a 57-57 draw. (EKA)
