SIBLINGS John Philip and Chobie Dueñas are planning to join the South East Asia (SEA) Spartan Race Series after grabbing podium spots in the Spartan Philippines Alviera a week ago.

John Philip, the long-time coach of Olympian Mary Joy Tabal, finished third in the Ultra Beast category of the Spartan Philippines Alviera in Porac, Pampanga on Oct. 27, 2019. He clocked 6 hours, 20 minutes and 32 seconds.

The Ultra Beast category had a 50-kilometer course with 60 tough obstacles to hurdle.

Andrico Mahilum bagged first place after clocking in 6:06:33 and Christian Handler settled second in 6:14:45.

“This was the first time that there was an Ultra Beast category in the Spartan Philippines,” said John Philip.

The younger Dueñas, Chobie, also finished third in the Beast category, which covered 21K and had 30 obstacles. He timed 2:07:14 behind eventual winner Jose Mari de Castro Jr. who clocked in 1:53:00 and Ian Deeth who came in 1:53:41.

“Next year, my plan is to join the SEA Series and to qualify for the Spartan World Championships,” said John Philip.

He said that the final details for the SEA Spartan Race Series will be released in December. The Dueñas brothers are members of the Motor Ace Kawasaki Racing Team. (RSC)
