THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 7 is now focusing on the youth in its entrepreneurial drive.

The agency is gathering around 200 young Filipinos in Cebu City on Nov. 27, 2019 for the Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP).

DTI Cebu Director Esperanza Melgar said the participants include students, tech startups, and micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs).

“The ultimate goal of the program is to develop and improve their (young people) entrepreneurial skills,” said Melgar Monday, Nov. 4.

The YEP Cebu launch happening at Parklane International Hotel will have breakout sessions for the young participants.

Sessions

The YEP is a nationwide program to help young Filipinos develop their entrepreneurial skills by offering them different content and workshops to motivate and equip them with basic knowledge to get started.

The first breakout session will center on the idea of attracting young talents with company culture. The participants of this workshop will learn more about the importance of company culture and how to align themselves or their startup’s culture with the talent they wish to attract.

Company culture is the personality of a company. It defines the environment in which employees work. Company culture includes a variety of elements, including work environment, company mission, value, ethics, expectations, and goals.

Another session will also tackle about lean startup methodology, where participants expect to learn how to discover if a proposed business model is viable by developing businesses and products that aims to shorten product development cycles. This is achieved by adopting a combination of business-hypothesis-driven experimentation, iterative product releases and validated learning.

A learning session aimed for MSMEs will also delve into the importance of maintaining social media presence for businesses.

Participants will be saturated with content that will encourage them to create social media channels. With a small business and most owners running a one-man show for all the responsibilities of the business, participants will learn how to keep up and stay active online.

Lastly, the YEP will also engage the participants in a workshop that would help them keep a positive mindset when entering business.

This workshop aims to enrich participants to choose the right thoughts and urge them to make wise decisions in the process of establishing a business.

The YEP aims to promote engagement of identified and other potential cooperators in the nationwide implementation of the program.

This will also serve as an avenue to inspire and capacitate young people to become smarter and competitive entrepreneurs. (CSL)
