Tay Tung elem wins 3-peat, captures juniors title in Nopsscea caging

THE Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts elementary and junior teams emerged as Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association (Nopsscea) Season 39 basketball tournament champions after winning over their respective opponents over the weekend at the STI-West Negros University gym.

The younger Thunderbolts clinched their 3-peat crown after dominating over the St. John's Institute Baby Falcons, 70-64.

Meanwhile, the Tay Tung juniors team was declared champion after beating the University of St. La Salle Junior Stingers, 82-67 in the semifinals.

The Junior Thunderbolts were supposed to meet the winner of the semifinal match between Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias Titans and STI-West Negros University Mustangs. However, the said semis match ended undesirably following a free-for-all scene with less than 2 minutes left in the game clock.

CSAV was ahead by 20 points against STI-WNU when the fight commenced inside the court as both benches were emptied. As a result, the game was called-off by the technical officials.

Following the investigation conducted by the Nopsscea Committee on Sports headed by Dr. Carlitos Orola, the committee found that both teams have violated Article 39 of the 2018 Official Basketball Rules by FIBA. Both teams were sanctioned with a game suspension apiece.

"We also have drafted a preventive measure for the approval of the Board of Trustees," Orola said.

Settled as first runner-up is CSAV followed by USLS and STI-WNU. (IA)
