‘Undas 2019’ in Eastern Visayas generally peaceful

ALL Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on November 1-2 were generally peaceful in Eastern Visayas.

“I commend our police officers for their untiring service and I am also very much grateful to all the force multipliers who helped in ensuring a peaceful and safe ‘Undas 2019’ all throughout the region,” said Brigadier General Ferdinand Divina, acting director of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Eastern Visayas.

A total of 2,129 policemen were deployed to provide security in cemeteries around Eastern Visayas during the holidays.

PRO-Eastern Visayas also established 432 police assistance hubs with 3,645 force multipliers in churches and cemeteries to include seaports, airports and bus terminals all over the region, according to Lieutenant Colonel Ma. Bella Rentuaya, regional police spokesperson.

Along with their intensified security coverage, Rentuaya said that they arrested 15 most wanted persons and 189 other wanted persons from October 29-Nov. 3, 2019.

“I am thankful for the support and cooperation of the community in our fight against criminality. We will work hard in making Eastern Visayas a safe place to live in,” added Divina in a statement.

Divina, who assumed post last October 25, 2019, vowed to continue the “culture of professionalism and service excellence” of erstwhile PRO-Eastern Visayas head Brigadier General Dionardo Carlos now the director of Highway Patrol Group.

“Let us always show to the people we have sworn to serve that we as police officers are professionals. It is our obligation because from their taxes come our salaries and allowances which is now double and fully implemented including other incidental benefits,” Divina earlier said.
