FOUR months after he assumed office as mayor of Lapu-Lapu City, Junard “Ahong” Chan showcased his programs during his first State of the Children’s Report on Monday, Nov. 4, 2019.
About 5,000 children listened to his report at the Hoops Dome in the city.
Chan reported the opening of the e-library in Barangay Gun-ob last Oct. 9, saying the project allows students to conduct their research and print reading materials for free. The computers at the e-library were donated by a telecommunication company.
Chan now plans to open new e-libraries in Olango and in other barangays in the city.
The mayor also announced his plan to open a call center academy for senior high students who want to work in business processing outsourcing (BPO). This would give students, including those who cannot proceed to college, the opportunity to work in BPO firms.
Chan said several students had been sent to competitions within the country and abroad in the past four months, including the robotics tilt in Greece, Palarong Pambansa in Palawan and the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet.
The mayor also talked about the city’s campaign against polio and dengue, and the care given to children in conflict with the law and victims of abuse.
He mentioned the rescue of 70 minors from different cases of abuse. These minors are now in the custody of Home Care in Barangay Gun-ob.
Chan said making the Lapu-Lapu City College a state college is also a priority of his administration.
He also stressed the city’s continued campaign against illegal drugs and the need to provide lighting facilities for the city’s streets. (From GCM of SuperBalita Cebu, MVG)
