'Undas' observance peaceful

AUTHORITIES said Monday, November 4, that the observance of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day in Northern Mindanao was generally peaceful as no significant incidents were reported.

In Cagayan de Oro City, over 50,000 people visited the different cemeteries in the city.

In Misamis Oriental, the provincial police deployed 460 policemen for the assistance desk in terminals, airports and seaports; 430 personnel in cemeteries; and 320 reserve personnel stationed at their office.

"May mga 1,117 force multipliers na naka-assist sa 'min from the local government units (We have 1,117 force multipliers that assisted us from the local government units)," Provincial Police Director Colonel Robert Roy Bahian said.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-Northern Mindanao chief Police Brigadier General Rolando Anduyan said the region recorded no untoward incidents in all areas under its command.

However, police units confiscated prohibited items at the cemeteries which include 35 bladed weapons and 27 alcoholic drinks. They also stopped 18 videoke/karaoke operations and reprimanded 22 violators of other regulations.

Anduyan attributed the peaceful observance to the planned security coverage, the concerted efforts of different law enforcement agencies, local government units, and the community.

"I am happy to announce that the Undas 2019 is generally peaceful," Anduyan said.

"PRO-10 would like to commend our personnel and other government agencies for sacrificing a lot of things just to ensure that the public can enjoy their time together with their family in visiting their departed loved ones. Truly, you are a hero in your own little way for the people who benefited your sacrifice," Anduyan said. (PJO/JAS)
