Science week to showcase 17 sustainable development goals

THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Northern Mindanao is celebrating this year’s 4-day Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) at Robinsons Place in Valencia City, Bukidnon on November 10 to 13.

The event is composed of science and technology activities such as fora, exhibits, and contests that feature the current innovations and technologies which can improve the agricultural and industrial facet in the people of Northern Mindanao.

“This is just not a regional celebration since our secretary (DOST Secretary Fortunato dela Peña) will be coming over and all the RDs (regional directors) of the different regional offices will also be coming,” engineer Romela Ratilla, the assistant regional director of DOST, said.

The event will also be attended by various partner academe, allied institutions and project stakeholders.

Some of this year’s RSTW highlights are the Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits, Farm Industry Encounter through Science and Technology (Fiesta), and the launching of the Bantog Media Awards.

According to Ratilla, the 2019 RSTW will be different from last year’s as the event will also be showcasing the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs)

“Our exhibit will be clustered around the different SDGs,” Ratilla said.

The 2019 Regional Science and Technology Week is anchored on the theme: “Science for the People: Enabling Technologies for Sustainable Development.”
