UC Lady Jaguars rout field for BBEAL women’s cage crown

UNIVERSITY of the Cordilleras (UC) is back on top as champion, in women’s basketball.

The Lady Jaguars stomped their class in the Baguio – Benguet Educational Athletic League (BBEAL) as they closed the season with an unbeaten run capped by bludgeoning Saint Louis University (SLU) Lady Navigators recently, 81-28, at the UC gym.

The Lady Jaguars were unrelenting and practically needed just half a court to conclude a season where a 40 winning point edge was minimum.

Marife Licudan led the Lady Jaguars scorers with 19 points, while Fidela Angayen and Alexandra Dulag added 16 and 12 points, respectively, while SLU top scorer Hazelle Irysh Habon managed 10 points as she literally bled for points in the game.

“Finally, nakuha ulit natin,” said a beaming Lady Jaguars coach Albin Santos who returned as head coach for the ladies squad where they last won the title four years ago.

Santos lauded his players focus and determination during the off season as the team also dominated defending champion University of Baguio Lady Cardinals and the Philippine Military Academy Lady Cavaliers during the first and second round of the eliminations.

“We really didn’t have a dominant player in terms of scoring but they made it up with their good defense,” added Santos. (Roderick Osis)
