‘Undas’ in Cordillera generally peaceful

THE observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on November 1 and 2, respectively, in the Cordillera was generally peaceful and orderly according to the Police Regional Office Cordillera (PRO–COR).

Police Brigadier General Israel Ephraim Dickson said the peaceful commemoration is due to the cooperation and support of the community to police personnel, Armed Forces of the Philippines and force multipliers.

Dickson also appreciated the public’s cooperation and discipline in following the protocols being implemented.

“We attribute to the cooperation and discipline of the general public that we were able to observe the All Saints/Souls Day peacefully in cemeteries as well as in bus terminals and other places of convergence. I personally observed this discipline in my walk-throughs,” Dickson added.

During the celebration, Dickson said there was no significant incident except for few violations on the “no bladed items/alcoholic drinks inside cemeteries policy.”

Confiscated were 57 bladed weapons and seven alcoholic drinks which were returned to owners upon their exit from the cemeteries in the different provinces and two cities in the region.

The PRO–COR chief said the decline in the influx of passengers was attributed to the earlier vacation of the students and work suspension that encouraged commuters to travel ahead of the long weekend.

“Police personnel and other force multipliers successfully served the public because they were deployed to provide assistance along highways and major thoroughfares, traffic management, and security assistance to cemeteries, churches, transport terminals, and other places of engagement. Likewise, police assistance hubs were established and Road Safety Marshals were positioned in major thoroughfares and roads leading to the different cemeteries and other memorial gardens to assist the public,” Dickson added.
