Santo Tomas ex-mayor passes away

SANTO Tomas former mayor Romeo Ronquillo passed away Monday afternoon, November 4, at the age of 68.

Ronquillo, who served as local chief executive of the town for two consecutive terms from 1995 to 2001, reportedly suffered cardiac arrest.

During his leadership, Ronquillo was among the Pampanga officials who pushed for the construction of the San Fernando-Santo Tomas-Minalin tail dike, which serves as the protection of residents of the three localities from annual flooding.

He is also known for his generosity to fellow Tomasians through social programs he initiated even outside of government service.

Ronquillo is survived by his wife, incumbent Mayor Gloria Ronquillo, six children, and grandchildren.

Condolences sent to the bereaved family from fellow Tomasians poured in on social media on Monday as they remembered the leadership and good deeds of the late former mayor.

His body lies in state at R33 Trucks in Barangay Sto. Domingo in Minalin town.

The family is yet to announce the schedule of interment.
