THE University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters will try to clinch a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four when they take on the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats in the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Thursday, November 7, 2019.
Currently sitting in second place with a 7-3 (win-loss) record, the Webmasters need a win on Thursday to assure itself of a top two finish and earn the last twice-to-beat bonus.
However, UC’s lead assistant coach, Rocky Alcoseba, is well aware that the job at hand is easier said than done, especially with CIT-U looking to build on their 71-69 win over a squad that is headed to the semifinals — the University of San Carlos Warriors.
“The team knows what is at stake. There is no guarantee in this league. We respect CIT-U to know that they are a team that we can’t mess around with. If we want to come up with a win, we need more than just a game plan,” said the son of head coach, Yayoy Alcoseba.
Meanwhile, in the high school division, the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles will try to book the last ticket to the semifinal round when they face off against the surging University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars.
Sitting at fourth in the standings with a 6-2 card, the Magis Eagles need a victory against the preseason champions to complete the Final Four cast in the high school basketball tournament.
Already waiting in the Final Four are UC, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation and the University of the Visayas.
USJ-R however, still has a faint chance of advancing but needs to defeat Ateneo de Cebu on Thursday to keep their hopes alive. After opening the season with four straight losses, the Baby Jaguars have won four in a row to even up their record at 4-4.
