Connector road to hasten travel from central to northern Luzon

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is confident that two years from now, travel from Central and North Luzon to the southern provinces of the country would be a breeze with the ongoing construction of a connector road along two vital expressways.

Secretary Mark Villar recently led an inspection of the ongoing construction of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX)-South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Connector Road, which will connect the two vital expressways in a bid to ease travel time to both ends of Luzon.

Under the project, the length of the NLEX will be increased by 8.25 kilometers leading up to Sta. Mesa in Manila.

The project is expected to be completed by 2021, in which vehicles coming from the NLEX will exit through Karuhatan all the way to the NLEX-Harbor Link in Santa Mesa.

From Santa Mesa, the NLEX Connector Road will lead to the Skyway Stage 3 which will lead up to the SLEX.

Some P15 billion was allocated for the project by the concessionaire NLEX Corporation for the construction and operation of the project under the Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT) scheme.

The NLEX-SLEX Connector Road is among the priority projects of President Rodrigo Duterte under the "Build-Build-Build" Infrastructure Program of the DPWH.
