CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Back to basics is the technique Mayor Edwin Santiago plans to use to address the consecutive road crash incidents that have been transpiring in the city and across the province in the past month.
Kapampangans have been expressing anxiety on social media over the series of car accidents that caused minor to severe injuries and claimed numerous lives.
To prevent the further increase of such cases, Santiago said knowledge of drivers on basic road safety techniques and etiquette must be refreshed through seminars.
He said the City Government is partnering with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in hosting road safety seminars that will cater to private and public utility vehicle drivers.
"We go back to the basics because it seems that many of our drivers seemed to have been so confident driving that they forget the basic or the safest driving methods," he said.
Through the seminars, Santiago said drivers will also be educated on how to properly prepare themselves and their vehicles to ensure their road worthiness.
Updated local and international traffic seminars will also be relayed to familiarize the drivers in case they encounter it during their travels, he added.
Santiago, meanwhile, said that discipline on the road is still the most effective armor that a driver may have against road crash and even road rage cases.
"Enough of the blame game. Let's take responsibility on ourselves and our passengers instead. If everybody can practice defensive driving, we can reduce the number of road crash cases significantly," he said.
