Bacolod to review resettlement policies

THE City Government of Bacolod will review its policies on recipients of a relocation site in the city.

Councilor Renecito Novero, chairperson of the City Council committee on urban poor housing and resettlement, said Wednesday, November 6, 2019, that he already talked to Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Ma. Victoria Parrenas, head of Bacolod Housing Authority (BHA), and Councilor Archie Baribar, and agreed for the review of their policies on the recipients of the relocation site who failed to occupy their lots within three months.

He said they need to review their policies because there were some informal settlers who have valid reasons why they failed to occupy their lots.

"We will review our policies if we can give consideration to our recipients with valid reasons for failure to occupy their lots, but for those who sold their lots, it's illegal. We don't want to be arbitrary and we just want to be reasonable. We will also review our city ordinance," he added.

Novero noted the BHA has an ongoing inspection at the city's relocation site in Abada Escay, Barangay Vista Alegre.

Parennas earlier said they already cancelled more than 100 recipients of the relocation site in Abada Escay after they failed to occupy it for more than a year.

"As soon as we have the lists of the informal settlers, we will conduct a socio-economic survey to determine if they are qualified to avail the relocation site. Once they qualified, we will inform their village chiefs," Parrenas said.

She said those who already secured the application forms should comply with the requirements and submit them so they can avail of the relocation site.

The informal settlers are required to submit a certification from the barangay, marriage contract, and certification from National Housing Authority.
