THE Zamboanga City Government has intensified inspections on all public and private buildings in the central business district in light of the spate of earthquakes that hit Mindanao over the past days.
City Engineer Office head Christopher Navarro said the conduct of structural audit on buildings is a regular activity that is being strictly implemented.
Navarro said they had earlier sent letters recommending repairs, revisions or retrofitting of buildings that were found to have minor cracks during regular inspections conducted previously.
However, he said most of the cracks discovered were superficial and did not show serious problems in terms of structural integrity.
Meanwhile, he added that building owners were advised to clear passageways to emergency exits as well as to submit evacuation plans to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office for evaluation. (SunStar Zamboanga)
