“We hired pathologists and they were the ones who recommended to have them cut since these are dying trees,” matod ni Eduardo Enting, DENR 7 regional technical director.

“In Cebu, some trees will be affected by road widening. There is necessity to expand the road network because traffic is going to be difficult just like in Metro Manila,” matod ni DENR Undersecretary Rodolfo Garcia atol sa 78th International Federation of Landscape Architects-Asia Pacific Region sa Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
“It is always a challenge, we have our pragmatic needs. Nature is important and development is also important. It has to be balance,” matod ni Garcia.
Sa iyang bahin, si Corazon Davies, Assistant Secretary for Police and Planning Services sa DENR, nagkanayon nga gitun-an ang pagpamutol og kahoy hilabi na ang century ug heritage trees.
“The DENR has a program to preserve century and heritage trees. When we cut trees, it is always based on science,” matod ni Davies.
“Trees are renewable resources. We can plant new ones.”
Samtang ang DENR nakig-partner na sa Philippine Association of Landscape Architects isip tabang sa pagplano sa mga programa sa ahensiya ingon man aron mapalambo pa ang landscape ug seascapes sa nasod.
“This partnership will bring in the greening of the landscape, like shopping centers or buildings, you will now begin to see green buildings,” matod ni Garcia. (HBL)
