Tell It to SunStar: Resist, women!

Under the macho-fascist Duterte regime, women are criminalized for fighting against misogyny and corruption, women are being arrested in call for basic social economic services amidst worsening poverty, women are being accused as rebel forces of communist groups by the police, military, and by the President Duterte himself.

In this week alone, women rights activists were illegally arrested and in raised by the fascist PNP, among them, Cora Agovida, spokesperson of Gabriela-Metro Manila. The Department of National Defense (DND) has called Gabriela Women’s Party a front for communist groups putting the lives of all women leaders of Gabriela in grave danger. These outright vilification among progressive women human rights defenders proves that the whole state are under a Martial Law rule, with the government’s political persecution of among women, farmers, workers, students, national minority, no one is safe. These arrests killings are clearly an assault on of law and to basic human rights.

In the region of Negros alone, 57 activists were illegally arrested as of last week, suspected of being members of the armed communist rebel group New People’s Army and were charged with illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and explosives. Baseless accusations, planted evidences, and recycled warrants are being promulgated by the desperate Duterte regime. In this overly repeated and abused tactics of the administration, the Filipino people shows the value of dissent through collective resistance, proving that no matter how ruthless this government can be, our strength and continuing power to unite scares them. We vow to will keep on fighting despite all the threats from this government. has Tell It to SunStar: Tell It to SunStar:
