PARDON me for retelling you the importance of discernment to the biblical warnings about “speaking in tongue” being misunderstood and misapplied by many.
The setting was, when Jesus was about to ascend to heaven after his resurrection based on the Christian belief, he assured his anxious disciples to throw away their qualms because His disappearance will be supplanted by a comforter, the Holy Spirit.
The disciples had to wait for 50 days for the Pentecost (pouring of the Spirit) to empower them to speak in different tongues (languages) that will be understood by many, so that they could do the great commission to propagate the gospel of the kingdom throughout the world.
If somebody would claim he received the Holy Spirit and speaks with tongue that cannot be understood like “rababababahhhh”; and act like a monkey desiring to climb the walls of your church, that is a mere pretention and shamanism! We are not sure how many spirits out of seven were trapped in his body.
The tongue mentioned here does not only mean spoken language that is understood by the locale, but with the most understood language for humanity which is love according to 1 Corinthians 13:1, saying: “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.”
The self-proclaimed son of God who doggedly claimed has the control when to, and when not to cause the earthquake, may have spoken in tongue like a rababababahhhh..., that added insult to the injured. He should have spoken in tongue with charity by sending some aides to the quake victims so that preaching the gospel of his own kingdom will not sound like a sounding brass or tinkling cymbal.
My number one senator too, Kuya Bong should not crucify and speak in tongue against Vice President Leni Robredo for three apparent reasons: One, VP Robredo was not the one who promised during the campaign period to end the drug war in six months. Two, she is willing to cooperate, to render her very least recognized acumen to straighten the inutile gambit of the war, based on her assessment. And, she is not a trigger-happy czar to implement a state-sponsored killing, whether it is a drug lord or a peddler, because she cherished the sanctity of life.
Gordon’s Blue Ribbon committee should also not speak in tongue against Albayalde. As a lawyer, he knows his committee is not the proper court to indict Albayalde.
To better interpret the essence of “speaking in tongue”, let me borrow a statement from an unknown author saying, “No matter where we come from, there is one language we can all speak and understand from birth, the language of the heart, love.” We hope every gift of tongue will be utilized to the fullest within the bounds of charity or love, as it is the common denominator for our peaceful existence.
