THE 8th Heroes Run-Cebu Leg-Takbo Para sa Kapayapaan is expected to gather 1,000 participants at the Camp Lapu-Lapu in Brgy. Apas, Cebu City on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019. The event organized by the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association Inc.-Philippine Army Chapter will be staged simultaneously in 14 key cities.

The fun run aims to raise funds for the Heroes Foundation Inc., a non-governmental organization that supports the scholarship program of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Education Benefits System Office. The Cebu Leg will not be your usual weekend fun run as the organizers will incorporate an obstacle course in the 3.2-kilometer course. The categories are the 3.2K run, 3.2K with an obstacle course and the Squad Challenge.

“We decided to do the 3.2K distance because it’s the standard length for the physical test of the military men,” said Major Christian Uy, the group commander of the 3rd Civil Relations Group, on Friday’s press conference.

“The military men usually finish the course within a standard time limit. But for this run, the participants can finish it at their own pace,” he added.

Race director Carlo Sumayang said the course is designed to be doable even for newbies in the obstacle course race.

“The obstacles are those used by the military on their daily training. The participants will be guided while doing it. For the squad category, teammates can help each other in the obstacles,” said Sumayang.

John Philip Dueñas, also one of the race directors, is inviting all the sports enthusiasts in Cebu to join this event for a cause.

There will be no cash prizes but the organizers will be giving out trophies and freebies to the top three runners in every division.

Registration fee is P500 for the 3.2K run, P600 for the 3.2K run with obstacle course and P6,000 per team for the Squad Challenge inclusive of race shirt, race bib, loot bag and finishers’ dog tags for obstacle and squad challenge. (RSC)
