Construction workers survive landslide

TWO construction workers cheated death after being covered by soil debris brought about by erosion along a river at Camp 7, Baguio City Thursday afternoon, November 7.

The victims were identified as Neil John Patacsil Fernandez, 25, native of Naguillian, La Union and Glenn Velez Fontanos, both construction workers of BLC Construction Company.

According to a police report, the incident transpired at 12 noon in a construction site beside a river at Camp 7.

The erosion was due to a loose foundation that covered the two victims who were installing steel bars to reinforce the riprap.

The victims were extricated at around 12:30 p.m. of the same day by respondents from the Baguio City Police Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, Emergency Medical Service and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. They were brought to BGHMC for medication.

Meanwhile, a public utility jeep with a route of Baguio-Bahong driven by Alfredo Singyao Pagat, male, 62, of DA 113 Upper Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet accidentally hit an electric post while cruising along Magsaysay Avenue.

Investigation showed that vehicle lost its brake, forcing the driver to bump the electric post which fell on the ground while seven passenger of the jeepney incurred minor injuries and were brought to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.
