Mayor wants GMRC back in basic education

CITY of San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago is advocating for the return of Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) subject to the curriculum of basic education.

Santiago said the revival of GMRC or values formation-based subject is integral in ensuring that children will have stronger foundation and have a guiding principle as they grow old.

“I have been an advocate of strengthening the Early Childhood Care and Development to help parents build a stronger foundation for their children, and I believe that that foundation must not be focused on academic learning alone, but also in teaching them the importance of values and human relations,” he said.

If possible, Santiago said GMRC must be a separate subject that will be taught at least one hour per day, just like any other academic subjects such as English, Mathematics, or Science.

“We must give equal emphasis to each of this subject because we all know that GMRC is also essential in the complete success of every individual,” he said.
