Businessmen urged to brace for ‘Big One’

Businessmen in Angeles City’s entertainment and central business district were urged to prepare for a strong earthquake otherwise known as the “Big One” that may hit the area.

Leaders of Barangay Balibago, which is home to several multi-level structures, invited owners and managers of business establishments for a forum in preparation for any disaster like an earthquake.

Balibago chairman Tony Mamac said a nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill will be conducted on November 14.

“We invited all our stakeholders and business establishments located along MacArthur Highway, Balibago and conducted an orientation and training to key persons of each establishment on what to do when an earthquake occurs in our area. And in preparation for the fourth quarter nationwide simultaneous drill on November 14, 2019,” Mamac said.

Feliciano Rosve Henson of the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) attended the forum, according to Mamac.

The village chief said the things on what to do before, during and after earthquake were discussed during the orientation.

A list of telephone numbers belonging to various emergency response offices, including the city police, was distributed to the attendees.

Among the Angeles City Emergency Hotlines are 0917-851-9581 (Globe), 0998-842-7746 (Smart), and (045) 322-7796.

Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. on Thursday, November 7, led a city-wide earthquake drill, which was supported by various business establishments, schools, and other groups.

The mayor has underscored the importance of the drill and preparedness to mitigate the number of casualties when disasters occur.
