CLOSE to 200 chess wizards will test each other’s mettle when the 2019 Lapu-Lapu City Fiesta Chess Fest blasts off on Nov. 16 to 17 at the Hoops Dome LPSU Auditorium in Lapu-Lapu City.
The two-day chess event will have three categories—the Kiddie U-14, Individual Rapid for local players in Lapu-Lapu City and the Open Individual Rapid. Organizers said they expect 80 players on the first day and 100 competitors in the final day.
The Kiddies U-14 and Individual Rapid for locals will be played on Saturday, while the highlighted category, the Open Individual Rapid, will take center stage on Sunday.
The Open Individual Rapid will be for all non-rated and rated players. The champion will win P5,000 cash prize, while the second to fourth placers will get P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000, respectively. The fifth to 10th placers will not go home empty-handed and will each receive a P500 consolation prize. / RSC
