USC readies for City Olympics

THE University of San Carlos-Basic Education Department (USC-Bed) track and field team has its eyes on the big prize when they compete in the 2019 Cebu City Olympics.

The Cebu City Olympics, which is a qualifying tournament for the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) Meet, will be on Nov. 13 to 17 2019 at the Cebu City Sports Center.

“We are now 80 percent ready. The team is now looking forward to the competition next week,” USC-Bed head coach Alvin Loberanis said in Cebuano.

USC-Bed track and field team prevailed in the girls’ secondary and elementary last year. The team wants to duplicate that feat this year despite having a rookie-laden squad.

“It will be a big challenge since most of our athletes in the high school division are the rookies or Grade 7. But I expect them to compete with heart,” he said.

For the elementary division, USC-Bed only has entries in the girls’ division and Loberanis is hoping that young athletes will deliver for the school.

The track and field event will be held at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Aside from the medal-rich track and field, the other events to be contested are archery, arnis, athletics, baseball, basketball, badminton, billiards, boxing, chess, dancesports, futsal, football, gymnastics, karatedo, scrabble, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, wrestling and wushu.

The medalists in the City Olympics will represent Cebu City in the Cviraa Meet. / RSC
