1 killed, 5 arrested in Cebu drug ops

A SUSPECTED drug pusher was killed while five others were nabbed in three separate drug busts in Cebu on Friday, Nov. 8, 2019.

Police Master Sergeant Joel Pino of the Bogo Police Station said a certain Joey Casas, 40, was killed by his operatives after he resisted arrest in Barangay Marangog, Bogo City.

Casas was previously jailed due to illegal drug activities, but he was released after he availed himself of a plea bargaining agreement from the court, Pino said.

Casas reportedly fought back after he found out that he was transacting with police.

He was rushed to the hospital but he died on arrival.

He yielded two medium packs of suspected shabu, a .45 pistol and cash worth P2,490.

On the same day, operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Central Visayas arrested Maricor Zamora, 34, while implementing a search warrant in her house in Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City.

Aside from Zamora, Wynners Sayago was also arrested in the operation.

Sayago, however, denied any connection to Zamora.

Wenceslao Galendez Jr., NBI 7 supervising agent, said Zamora was considered to be a high-value target and had used several aliases in her transactions.

Galendez said Zamora often operated in the cities of Cebu and Talisay.

He said their office had been monitoring Zamora for years but they could not chance upon her, considering she changed locations several times.

Acting Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 20 Judge Marlon Moneva issued the search warrant against Zamora.

Zamora and Sayago yielded 1.5 kilos of suspected shabu with a street value of around P10.2 million and other drug paraphernalia, including packing equipment The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7 also assisted during the NBI’s operation.

Zamora and Sayago will face charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

In Talisay City, three persons, including two minors, were arrested by police after they were caught in a buy-bust in Sitio Sawsawan, Barangay San Roque on Friday night.

Arrested were Clint McEnroe Cortel, 25, and two minors, both 17 years old.

Police Major Gerard Ace Pelare, Talisay City police chief, said they conducted an operation against Cortel after receiving information about his operations in the area.

The two minors were arrested after they were caught having a pot session in Cortel’s den.

Recovered from Cortel were packs of suspected shabu worth P35,000. / WBS, FMD / JKV
