Mayor says P2-M cash aid for quake victims not from calamity fund

THE P2-million financial assistance delivered over the weekend to the earthquake victims in Cotabato and Davao from Cagayan de Oro City government did not come from its calamity fund, Councilor Edgar Cabanlas said.

Cabanlas made the statement after Mayor Oscar Moreno said the city's calamity fund should be used only when calamities strike the city.

Cabanlas said the city council will just have to amend an approved ordinance which provides that the cash aid will be sourced from the calamity funds.

"We respect that position of the mayor. As long as we can send assistance to victims whatever is the source of funds," Cabanlas said.

Cabanlas said there are other appropriate source of funds.

"Naay other appropriate source of funds nga dali ra gihapon makuha," he added.

Personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD) delivered 20 rolls of “trapal” and over 1,000 liters of water to quake-stricken areas.
