City to partner with telcos thru PPP for SRP

THE Cebu City Government wants to enter into a public-private partnership (PPP) with a telecommunications company to be established at the South Road Properties (SRP), an official said.

Jose Daluz III, SRP manager, said the City is in initial talks with various telcos on the deal.

He explained that it is possible that the City can make an income from the telcos’ services to firms putting up businesses at the SRP, including fiber optics and internet, among others.

Daluz confirmed that some firms have shown interest, but he refused to disclose their names.

Once materialized, Daluz said the City will not have to spend a centavo to provide telecommunications services to firms doing business at the SRP.

Once they will open the bidding, Daluz said the City will choose a company that can give the biggest share of income to the City.

He said it is the thrust of Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella to let the City enter into a PPP with a telecommunications company that can provide services to future developments in SRP.

Daluz said this is part of their plans on the infrastructure they are set to establish in the SRP, considering the future developments in the area.

With the approval of the land development permit of SM-Ayala Consortium and the start of the operation of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway in 2021, it is expected that more people will converge at the SRP.

Aside from the plan to provide telecommunications services in the area, the City has created a technical working group to oversee traffic plans at the SRP.

The technical working group is composed of representatives from the SM-Ayala Consortium, Bus Rapid Transit, Universal Hotels and Resorts Inc. and the Talisay City Government. (JJL)
