Villamor snags 2 medals

AJ VILLAMOR, the son of former world title challenger and ALA Gym head coach Edito Villamor, snagged two medals in the 4th National Invitational Karatedo Championship in SM Bacolod City on Nov. 10, 2019.

AJ won a gold medal in Kata and added a silver medal in Kumite.

“I’m proud and happy in what he has achieved in his chosen sport. We are always here, as his parents, to support him all the way,” said Edito, who’s instrumental to the success of three-division world boxing champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes’ career.

Though Edito’s sport is boxing—as a boxer in his younger days and now as a coach—he is very supportive of his son’s chosen sport, which is karatedo.

He, however, is still optimistic that his son will follow in his footsteps as a boxer in the future.

“We are happy with his choice in sports. But in an interview, he mentioned that he wants to return to boxing. Whatever he wants, we will be there to support him,” said Edito.

Edito had an impressive boxing career with a 29-2-1 record. He’s a former Philippine champion and fought twice for a world title but fell short to Anucha Phothong and the great Ricardo Lopez. EKA
