Drowned PMA cadet brought home

THE body of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Cadet Fourth Class Mario Telan Jr. who drowned on November 8 has been brought home to Cagayan.

Before his remains were transported back to his hometown, a full departure honors were made early Sunday morning (November 10) at the academy with his parents and relatives.

Initial investigation revealed that Telan had his swimming classes around 11 a.m. to 12 noon and was found at the bottom of the pool by his fellow cadets past 2 p.m.

Captain Cheryl Tindog, PMA spokesperson, said while other cadets are performing their swimming examination, Telan jumped in the 15-foot deep pool and no one noticed he slowly waded in the water.

When asked of the morale of the institution, Tindog said the entire cadet corps and PMA family are sad for the unfortunate loss of their cadet who are also their sons.

PMA stated that as the academy pushes to institute reforms, no stones will be left unturned until this tragic incident has been properly addressed.

"All needed actions and protocols are being undertaken to deal with any infraction and or irregularity so this unfortunate loss will not happen again," Tindog added.

The academy ordered a thorough investigation and all swimming classes of the cadets are temporarily halted until such time that the incident has been properly addressed.

The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) is also conducting a parallel investigation on the alleged drowning incident.

Autopsy report showed the cadet incurred multiple abrasions in different parts of his body.

As of Monday, November 11, BCPO chief Colonel Allen Rae Co said they are almost done in their investigation.
