THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has agreed with Vice President Leni Robredo’s call to end killings related to President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.
CCPO officer-in-charge P/Col. Giovanie Maines told reporters on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 that the members of anti-narcotics units would always aim that no one would die in any operation.
However, if drug suspects would resist arrest and engage the police in a shootout, the law enforcers would have to fight back to preserve their lives, said Maines.
He already told his men that a law enforcer must not pull the trigger first.
Maines described the Vice President’s suggestion to not allow operatives to carry firearms during a drug bust as a big joke, saying it would be a suicide mission for the police.
The armed drug personalities who would know that the police are not carrying firearms would open fire at the operatives.
The CCPO ranks first in anti-illegal drugs operations in Central Visayas. In the past three weeks, its personnel seized P49.2 million worth of shabu, consisting of 50.56 percent of the P97.3 million worth of illegal drugs seized by the Police Regional Office 7 units in the same period.
Despite the CCPO’s several drug hauls, Maines said there are still supplies of illegal drugs in Cebu City. AYB / RSR
