MISAMIS Oriental Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Benjamin Resma on Monday, November 11, assured that there is still enough supply of pork meat to cater to the demands of customers in Misamis Oriental amid the African Swine Fever (ASF) scare.

Resma said swine raisers in the province increased their production as part of their plans for the expected high demand of pork products in the months of September, October, November and December.

He added that some of the commercial swine raisers have supplied pork in Luzon, where most of the ASF-affected areas are located.

“Ang problema man gud kay ang sa Luzon gahinay, kulang ang ilang production karon. So kita pud, ang mga swine raisers dinhi, kaning mga commercial, ginapadala man pud nila sa Luzon, the best is going to Luzon, ang mabilin dinhi sa ato,” Resma said.

However, they requested the swine raisers to meet first the demand in Misamis Oriental before continuing its delivery of supplies to Luzon.

“Dili ta magpasulod, tabangan ta mo, tabangan namo ang inyong industry, pero tabangan pud nato ang atoang mga tao sa demand kay kung ipadala sa Luzon, grabe pud ang demand didto kay wala man pud ilang baboy,” Resma said.

(We will block any entry of pork. We will help you with your industry but we will also help our own people’s demand. If we deliver it to Luzon, they have high demand since they lack in pork supply)

“So amo karon gina hangyo sila magtinabangay ta para di pud magkulang dinhi,” he added.

(We are asking them [swine raisers] to help our people that way we would have enough supply here)

He assured that there is enough supply of pork in Misamis Oriental, albeit not that high compared to last year’s.

“Dili nato maingon kulang, dili pud sobra kaayo. Not like before nga sobra pero ang demand kusog man pud [and demand]. Karon mura sya’g na-balance kay naa pud mga tao nga gakahadlok mokaon. Dili pud ingon na dako ang diperensya sa demand ug supply. Igo ra sya,” Resma said.
