DOST to allocate funds for research

VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon -- Secretary Fortunato dela Peña said part of the P2.6-billion funding for 2020 of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) system will be allocated for research of scholars who are dispersed over the many courses under the science, technology, engineering, mathematics strand of the K-12 program.

Dela Peña, during the opening of the Regional Science and Technology Week and Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits here, said a bulk of the budget will be for the salaries of teachers and employees.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has also identified facilities for the different PHSH campuses in the country that would need to be built this 2020.

The Department of Budget and Management approved a budget of P20.1 billion for 2020 for the DOST, P2.6 billion of which will go to the Philippine Science High School. The PSHS system is composed of science-oriented secondary schools operating under the DOST.

Dela Peña said there are now 16 regional campuses all over the country, for each of the country's regions. The last three campuses established were the Dipolog campus for Zamboanga, Romblon campus for the Mimaropa region, and Batangas campus for Calabarzon.

The PSHS Campus for Central Luzon is located inside Clark Freeport.
