Zamboanga City commemorates Climaco's death anniversary

THE Zamboanga City Government will spearhead activities commemorating the 35th death anniversary of Mayor Cesar C. Climaco on Thursday, November 14.

Dubbed as "Dia de Cesar," the activities will kick off with a commemorative mass at 7 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Parish in the village of Pasonanca. It will be followed by a wreath-laying and program at the tomb of the late mayor at the Climaco Freedom Park in Mount Abong-Abong, also in Pasonanca.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, the niece of Cesar, will lead the activities, which will be attended by multi-sectoral groups, including local and national government agencies, non-government organizations, as well as the barangays, students, boy scouts and girl scouts and family and friends of the late mayor.

The commemoration will be held in coordination with the JCI Zamboanga Inc.

On Tuesday night, November 12, Salazar, together with officers and members of the Zamboanga Jaycees, led the wreath laying ceremony at the assassination site in Governor Alvarez Avenue, after which young Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts held a vigil at the Climaco Freedom Park.

The City Government also spearheaded Wednesday, November 13, the Young Leadership Assembly at the Centro Latino in Paseo del Mar with the Rotary Club's Youth City Officials as participants.

The activity discussed about the life story and legacy of Climaco, the legendary mayor of Zamboanga City. (SunStar Zamboanga)
