Pork supply in MisOr to dwindle in 2020

MISAMIS Oriental Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Benjamin Resma said while there is enough supply of pork in the province until the end of this year, there is no assurance that supply is sufficient next year.

“Karon wala pa tay problema sa supply pero moabot gyud sa next year nga magkulang gyud (At present, we have no problem with the supply, but by next year, our supply would not be enough),” Resma said.

Resma said the expected lack of supply of pork in 2020 is due to the commercial swine raisers’ decision to stop expanding its production and to start swine depopulation due to the African Swine Fever (ASF) that has affected the country.

The price of pork is also expected to increase when supply starts to drop, he added.

Resma said that the decrease in the pork’s farm gate price also contributed to the commercial swine raisers’ decision to stop expanding its production.

At present, the pork’s farm gate price is at P90 per kilogram.

“Pag P90 man gud, alkansi na ta. Dapat gyud naa sya sa mga P120, P150 or P110. Karon naa na sa P90 ubos. Pero pag-abot sa market, sa mga mall, mao ra gihapon ang presyo, mahal,” Resma said.

Meanwhile, the chicken’s farm gate price has increased at P170 to P180 per kilogram.
