THE Davao City Government has donated P3.5-million financial assistance to seven areas in Luzon that were devastated by Typhoon Quiel.

The 19th City Council passed on Tuesday, November 12, the proposed resolution authorizing the City Mayor's Office to utilize the portion of the 30-percent Quick Response Fund out of the five percent Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (Calamity Fund) of the local government for calendar year 2019 to the areas affected by the typhoon, which exited the country on Saturday, November 9.

The Provincial Governments of Apayao and Cagayan will each receive P1 million, while Cagayan municipalities Allacapan, Abulug, Camalaniugan, Sta. Praxedes, and Claveria will each receive P300,000.

Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, chairman of the City Council committee on finance, said the assistance was already delivered in cheque to the affected areas and will be coursed through by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

"Mayor Sara Duterte-(Carpio) wanted that immediately these things will be delivered to the concerned municipality and provinces," Dayanghirang said.

He said the City Government had been rolling out financial assistance to areas in the country that are devastated with calamities, such as typhoon and earthquakes.

Last week, the City Government gave a total of P4.2-million financial assistance to provinces of Davao del Sur and Cotabato, cities of Digos and Kidapawan, and municipalities of Matalam, M'lang, Magpet, and Hagonoy.

These areas were devastated by the series of earthquakes in the last week of October.

As of November 11, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that 28 individuals were killed during the earthquake, while more than 400 people were injured.

The NDRRMC also reported that 46,250 families or 231,250 individuals from 251 barangays in Davao Region and Soccsksargen were affected from the earthquake.
