City gov’t runs after illegal pedicab operations

THE anti-traffic operations of the Zamboanga City Government, after focusing on motorbikes, public and private vehicles, will shift to illegal operations of foot-pedaled tricycles, commonly known as pedicabs.

Assistant City Administrator Cesar Raz announced that the focus of operations in relation to violations of traffic rules and regulations will be the pedicabs, pursuant to Ordinance No. 92-12, regulating the operation of pedicabs.

Raz said Section 9 of the ordinance strictly prohibits anyone from driving pedicab without a driver’s license.

He said violators of this provision will be fined P50 for the first offence, P75 for the second offence, and imprisonment with corresponding fines, at the description of the court.

Article 3 provides for the authorized routes of pedicabs, allowing them to operate only on streets or roads leading to subdivisions and residential areas, the city official said.

Raz added that no other routes are allowed unless authorized by the city or village councils. (SunStar Zamboanga)
