THE Baguio City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRRMO) is now on blue alert in preparation for the passing of Tropical Storm “Ramon”.
Glenn Lardizabal, of the CDRRMO said at present, all agencies of government in the city are making the necessary preparations and actions on the possible effects of “Ramon” in the city.
“The tactical operations center of the Baguio City Police Office will facilitate coordination on whatever incidents that we will be having, of course the City District Engineering Office together with City Health Office, City Social Welfare and CEPMO and other agencies concerning disaster management are also on blue alert who will assist the CDRRMO with regards to this matter,” Lardizabal said.
Lardizabal added the CDRRMO is closely monitoring the status of the typhoon and the possible amount of rainfall it will bring to the city.
“With regards to the winds I think it is manageable. The only thing that we have to monitor in the rainfall which is the basis for us being blue alert status.
Most of our landslide incidents in Baguio City are rain induced landslides which is why this is what we are monitoring at present and we will be informing the public on the status of the typhoon if ever it would strengthen,” the City DRRM Officer stated.
The Mines and Geo Sciences Bureau (MGB) identifies the whole of Baguio as landslide prone.
“But then again, we have mitigation measures being conducted at present. Some of the barangays are really identified as prone like Irisan, Loakan, Santo Tomas-Balacbac area, Lucnab area which experienced landslides last year including Bakakeng which is why we advise their barangay DRRM to heighten their alert status not only during typhoons but during monsoon rains,” Lardizabal added.
