Bacolod to donate P4.5M to Mindanao quake victims

THE City Government of Bacolod will extend financial assistance worth P4.5 million to the victims of the earthquakes in Mindanao.

Councilor Cindy Rojas, chairperson of the city council committee on appropriation and finance, said Thursday, November 14, the city council already approved the P4.5-million aid for the victims of the recent strong earthquakes that struck the areas of Mindanao.

She said the city government will give P1 million each to the cities of Kidapawan, North Cotabato and Digos, Davao del Sur, and P500,000 each to the municipalities of Makilala, Magpet, Tulunan, North Cotabato; Magsaysay and Bansalan, Davao del Sur.

The budget will be taken from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) Fund.

“These areas have been declared under a State of Calamity due to devastating earthquake,” Rojas said.

She said the corresponding amount of financial assistance to be extended by the City of Bacolod chargeable against the current 30 percent Quick Response Fund of the 2019 DRRM Fund, per Section 21 of Republic Act 10121.

“We want to extend our help to our neighbors who were affected by the earthquakes, we need to help them,” she added.

The city’s financial assistance will be sent through bank-to-bank transaction.

Rojas disclosed that some cities and municipalities in Western Visayas also extended their assistance to the victims of earthquakes in Mindanao. (MAP)
