Suroy-Suroy Sugbo kicks off in Minglanilla

LAUNCHING towns into investment destinations is what the Cebu Provincial Government promises for this year’s Suroy-Suroy Sugbo.

The three-day activity kicked off on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019 at Anjo World, an amusement park, in Barangay Calajoan, Minglanilla town.

Mayor Elanito Peña said allowing the “Sugat Capital of the South” to host the opening of the Southern Heritage Trail would open doors for Minglanilla.

“We have the first theme park in the province and we are more than just the traffic that hounds the south,” Peña said, in a mix of English and Cebuano.

From Minglanilla, the 147 participants, aboard three tourist buses, then proceeded to the towns of San Fernando, Sibonga, Argao, Dalaguete, Alcoy and Boljoon were they were welcomed with local dishes and cultural presentations.

More delicacies and cultural shows will be showcased on the second day on Saturday, Nov. 16, by the towns of Oslob, Santander, Samboan, Ginatilan, Malabuyoc, Alegria, Badian and Moalboal.

The towns of Alcantara, Ronda, Dumanjug and Barili, and the cities of Carcar, Naga and Talisay are the destinations on the third and final day of the activity.

A local government unit is given an hour to showcase its products and culture to the participants.

But before the participants alighted their buses, local tour guides from each LGU aboarded the vehicles to entertain and educate tourists with facts about their towns.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, for her part, said the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo gave a sense of unity and hope to LGUs in southern Cebu.

“The level of excellence is still there. Each time is better than the previous (Suroy-Suroy Sugbo),” she said. (RTF)
