THE local government has released close to P400,000 financial assistance to 100 families displaced by flash flood and fire incidents in the past three months in different villages in Zamboanga City.
Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar led Thursday, November 14, the distribution of the cash assistance, which is in line with the Zamboanga City Government’s assistance to families in crisis situations.
Staffs of the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) and City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) assisted Salazar in the distribution of cash assistance.
CSWDO chief Socorro Rojas said that of the total 100 family beneficiaries, 24 were hit by fire and flash floods in the villages of Patalon, Putik, and Guiwan on August 16, September 13, and October 14, respectively; 44 were hit by flash floods in the village of Sta. Maria on September 13 and 32 were from the villages of Tetuan and Tugbungan hit by flash flood and fire on September 13 and 21, respectively.
Rojas said the amount of the cash aid depends on the extent of damage on houses sustained by the concerned families as mandated under a resolution of the City disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
She said the cash assistance was on top of the relief assistance earlier provided by the city government to the displaced families.
The grant of the financial assistance was based on the recommendations of the CSWDO, which conducted proper assessment and validation of the displaced families. (SunStar Zamboanga)
