Badjaos in Oro port relocated

THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) in Misamis Oriental said the Badjaos, who are usually seen swimming in the Port of Cagayan de Oro, were relocated and given livelihood assistance.

PPA Misamis Oriental information officer Juvylie Pacturan said the Task Force Badjao, which is a group composed of the said agency in coordination with private and other government offices, has successfully relocated the Badjaos in PNRoa, Canitoan, this city.

“So ang mga Badjao nga atong nakita sa una sa Port of Cagayan de Oro was relocated because kani nga task force na ngita sila’g relocation site and give the Badjaos a living opportunity na they could live a life na uplifted, not just living a day in the water,” Pacturan said.

Some of them, she added, returned to their original homes in Zamboanga and some other places.

“Because that is really no-no to the port nga naay mga mag swim along the operational area nga naa sa dagat,” Pacturan said.

She further said that swimming in the waters near the operational area of the port will cause accidents, which will then bring about injuries and damages.

“Gi-clear up na nato sa Port of Cagayan de Oro, they were relocated and they were given livelihood program to sustain their life,” Pacturan said.
