Blessings sought for Ibagiw Festival

PRAYERS to the gods and remembering artists ushered the opening of the Ibagiw Festival at the Diplomat Hotel grounds.

Vicky Mackay administered the prayers calling on artists who have passed to guide present artists so that they may be able to create beauty and inspire the next generation.

Artists and artisans gathered for the Ibagiw festival.

The launch commenced over the weekend led by the Baguio Arts and Creative Council (BACCI), Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong, and festival creative director Karlo Altomonte.

Activities included busking product expositions and exhibitions over the span of nine days.

Artisans who participated in competitions on metalcrafts, backstrap weaving, basketry and woodcarving since November 11 will be judged and conferred this week.

An exhibit featuring Baguio and Angono, Rizal artists will highlight the festival in an exposition dubbed as “Salubong,” with rooms of the former hotel converted to exhibition areas for over a dozen artworks from groups and individuals.

A fashion show will also feature local designers with models sashaying to music played by local musicians.

At the venue, there will be an on-the-spot portrait and landscape sketching session as well as a polymer clay workshop.

A solar drawing demonstration will also be done by Tam-awan village artist Jordan Mang-osan.

There are also four installation art pieces by Raquel Diokno, Sonny Balanga, Anna Cecilla Schmidt, and Sulu artists Jake Espiritu and Iya Regalario.
