APPRECIATE local.
This was the message of Cebuana jewelry designer Amanda Luym in an interview at the Cebu-inspired collection show of her jewelry brand, All That Glitters (ATG).
On Nov. 14 to 15, 2018, ATG staged a two-day exhibit at the Holicow Gallery in Crossroads Mall in Cebu City. It presented a collection inspired by Cebu, dubbed as the Pearl City of the South, where the brand was born.
It stemmed from the creative ideas of cousins Luym and Cacay Moras-Server.
The event came at an exciting time for Cebu’s design community following its recent Unesco designation as a Creative City of Design.
Luym is optimistic on the recognition, saying this will encourage more designers to come out into the open and be known.
“We have a lot of designers here in Cebu. We have four generations of them,” Luym told SunStar Cebu in an interview.
She believes more and more Cebuanos are appreciating locally made products like jewelry.
Local designs, she said, are catching up against “designer brands.”
“We are adamantly against the copy culture. So we’re trying to highlight originality,” she said.
ATG’s collection this year focused on fresh water pearls of different tones and sizes fashioned into pieces inspired by local flora and fauna in collaboration with Jaime Chua, a landscaper and purveyor of fine plants.
“The jewelry is inspired by memories of Cebu—elegant parties, beautiful women and moments of true luxury and leisure,” Luym said.
“The modernism of the house is translated through the metals and gems to create pieces that are timeless,” she added.
The exhibit also featured Chua’s collection of native orchids of different colors and species. (CSL)
