THE colors red and green have been associated with the Yuletide season. But as years passed, new Christmas hues became themes of love and goodwill.

Radisson Blu Cebu has accents of all shades of royal blue and silver. Marco Polo Plaza Cebu, Montebello Vila Hotel Cebu, Deca, Golden Prince Hotel and Suites, Cebu Parklane International Hotel, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino and Waterfront Airport Hotel and Casino played around with gold, green, silver and red.

SM City Cebu and SM Seaside City definitely won’t miss the ocean hues of aqua, blue and silver. Ayala Center Cebu has bright multi-colored decors in red, pink, green and gold.

Children love the red and white colors of Santa Claus and his reindeers. Schools depict the traditional colors of the Belen (Nativity Scene), like the brown stable, the white infant Jesus, and the silver star, which the Three Wise Men—garbed in colorful royal attires—followed to trace the newborn King.

Songs of Christmas thrill both young and old. White Christmas is “Winter Wonderland.” Missing a loved one is “Blue Christmas.” True, “Silver Bells” match the white snowman. The white shining star is “Oh, Holy Night.” And what about the almost colorless abandoned “Little Christmas Tree”? How about the local colors of “Kasadya Ning Taknaa,” “Sa Paskong Darating” and “Kampana ng Simbahan”?

For food, we love the violet “puto bumbong,” deep brown “sikwate,” red “kutsinta,” and white “puto.” Oh, brown chestnuts, too!

What is Christmas without its colors and songs?
