GOVERNMENT troops have recovered firearms from a fallen encampment of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat, officials announced.
Lieutenant Colonel Roberto Go, Jr., Army’s 37th Infantry Battalion commander, said the firearms that were recovered last weekend at Sitio Kuden in Batang Baglas Village, Palimban included two M-16 Armalite rifles, one improvised M-79 grenade launcher, and one caliber .22 rifle.
Go said the troops returned to scour the fallen camp since they believed there are still firearms that were hidden in the area.
He said the troops overrun the NPA encampment on October 24 following intense firefight.
He said the NPA encampment has some 100 bunkers made of indigenous materials, foxholes, multi-purpose structures with chairs and improvised blackboard, obstacle courses, documents, and tourniquet.
Colonel Wilbur Mamawag, Army’s 603rd Infantry Brigade commander, has commended the troops for another successful security operation that resulted to the recovery of firearms.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) chief, said it only manifested that the Regional Task Force to End Local Armed Conflict (RTF-ELAC) continuously gain grounds against the communist terrorists in South-Central Mindanao.
“It also likewise that the strong coordination and communication among the local folks and the other stakeholders with the AFP, ensures the end of terrorism and lawlessness,” he added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
