Dinagyang to center its festivities on the Child Jesus

THE Iloilo Dinagyang festivities will be centered on the people's devotion to Señor Santo Niño, the Child Jesus, in 2020.

The event's theme will highlight the "Perfect Vision: Celebrating the Ilonggo Spirit in Honor of Señor Santo Niño" on January 24 to 26, 2020.

"We are excited to experience Dinagyang and to preserve its religiosity. We have to take care of the sacred image of Señor Santo Niño," said Fr. Raymundo Edsel Alcayaga, parish priest of San Jose Placer at Plaza Libertad.

Organizer Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. (IFFI) president lawyer Jobert Peñaflorida said they are inviting Catholic schools in the city to join the religious parade.

On January 24, 2020, devotees will join the Fluvial and Solemn Foot Procession at 3 p.m., from the Iloilo River to downtown streets back to the church.

The organizers will also revive streetdancing and merrymaking with Dagyang sa Calle Real on January 25, 2020 at 8 a.m., to be participated by barangay-based tribes.

At 7 p.m. of the same day, the faithful can look forward to the Religious Sadsad or streetdancing at the San Jose church grounds and Plaza Libertad where LED walls will be set up to enjoin bigger crowds.

Believers said their petitions came true through prayers portrayed in the dance.

The Sadsad will start after the mass at San Jose Church to JM Basa Street all the way to Solis St. and back to Plaza Libertad.

On January 26, 2020, a mass will kick-off the Dinagyang 360 school-based tribes dance competition at 8 a.m. in four judging areas: the Freedom Grandstand, Iznart-Solis St., Ledesma-Valeria St., and Ma. Clara St.

"Dinagyang 360 is an arena theater-type performance. The concept revolves around devotion to Santo Niño and dagyang or merrymaking," said Eric Divinagracia, chair of tribes and artistic committee. (PR)
